Turbo Tax is what I have been using for years. I always use the online version because it is portable and accessible from any Internet connection. You get free e-filing with the purchase.
It is great for helping others with their taxes for the same reasons. They can meet with me anywhere with an Internet connection (my house, Starbucks, their house, library, etc.) and we can go through the process together. I like to let them “drive” so they become comfortable with the process (teaching them to “fish” so to speak.) After we are done, they are able to always go back and reprint their forms and worksheets in the future.
I do encounter questions I cannot answer (after all, I'm not a tax expert.) But between the TurboTax user forums and the IRS site, we can usually figure it out.
